Namaste Pay App – All You Need to Know

Nepal Telecom has finally launched its most awaited digital wallet called Namaste Pay app in Nepal. It is officially available in the play store in its beta version to run a test and trial, however, soon it will be updated with full features and specifications.

It is unique from other wallets due to its ability to perform offline transfers and payments without the use of the internet. It is the first-ever digital wallet in Nepal that uses the USSD system for fund transfers. Users can directly register to Namaste Pay using the USSD code *500#.

it is hoped to revolutionize the Nepali payment system as Nepal telecom has the highest number of subscribers. Moreover, it has the highest paid-up capital of Rs. 400 million till now. Other popular payment service providers such as IME Pay and eSewa have paid-up capital of Rs. 10 crores and Rs. 5 crores respectively.

What is Namaste Pay?

Namaste Pay is a digital wallet just like eSewa, Khalti, IME Pay etc which can be used for online transactions. It has been launched by Nepal Digital Payment Company (NDPC), an associate company of Nepal Telecom and jointly funded by Nepal Telecom and Rashtriya Banijya Bank

During its early stage, Namaste Pay is offering a limited number of services like mobile top-up, linking their banks, paying for electricity and water bills, loading the wallet and transferring the funds. The others services will gradually be updated very soon as per NDPC.

Features of the Namaste Pay App

Since the Namaste Pay App is in the earlier phase, limited features are available for now. However, different features just like other digital wallets will be added very soon as per Nepal Digital Payment Company. The Namaste Pay app offers the following features.

You can enjoy many other features on Namaste Pay like the web portal, credit card payment etc shortly as promised by NDPC. Although, the company has claimed that it went through multiple testing before the launch users are facing several difficulties in using the app. Let’s hope all these problems will be fixed to provide the users with an optimal experience.

You can register in register to the Namaste Pay app from both online and offline mediums. You can dial *500# and follow the given instructions to register your account. For this, you need the NTC sim and different information like First name, Last name, Date of birth, Gender, ID type & number.

Once you complete the process, you will get a PIN code to access the payment service. The maximum per-transaction limit when using Namaste Pay’s services through the USSD code method is Rs. 5,000 for now. But we expect that to change sometime in the future.

Similarly, Namaste Pay digital wallet is available in the beta version for Android. You can download the beta version of this app on Google PlayStore. However, IOS users have to wait as it is not currently unavailable in the Apple store.
